Year 2000 Software Audit is a program for making a quick inventory of the software files you have on your computer: applications, control panels, extensions, libraries, and drivers. It breaks the file listing into 6 sections:
• Year 2000 ready files (stated to be ready by the file’s producers)
• OS files (files provided with the MacOS)
• Uncertain files (files in our database, but not stated to be year 2000 ready or not
by the file’s producers - typically because it is an old version)
• Files that are essentially ready for year 2000, but have some “issues”
identified by the producer (which are typically listed in the report notes)
• Files not ready for year 2000 (stated not to be ready by the file’s producers)
• Unrecognized files (files not in our database of year 2000 files)
This program does not solve, or fix, the year 2000 problem on your computer. It helps you determine which files you should investigate first. Most Mac programs are unaffected by the upcoming year 2000. With this software you can isolate which software files might cause problems on your computer when the year 2000 arrives. Some software files which are not identified by this program may cause problems when the year 2000 arrives (an example would be data files which are used by a program [which isn’t ready for the year 2000 and] which wasn’t installed on the computer when the computer is scanned).
We have included a file “Y2KSA Form” which can be used to inform us about software files that we should add to our database. If you produce software files that are distributed, please look at the form. We would appreciate you forwarding the form to any software producers whose software is not in our database.
The unregistered version of the software will process at most one thousand (1,000) files at a time. You may process a larger number of files by specifying which folder to start the scanning in. The registered version has no preset limit to the number of files it will process at one time. You may register by using the included “Register” program or by going to http://order.kagi.com/?PY with your browser. Kagi is a third party which helps us process our registrations. We will email registered users who have provided us with valid email addresses when new versions come out, which will likely include larger databases. Registration include free updates to later versions of Year 2000 Software Audit.
Be sure to read the legal information at the bottom of this file.
